Women's Day in Poland

Women's Day has been celebrated in Poland since 1948. It was arbitrary imposed from Soviet Union's tradition. In the past women in their workplaces were given a carnation and a pair of tights.
It is still a very popular celebration as it was in the communist times. On the 8th March women and also girls in Poland are given flowers and choclolates to celebrate their day. Boys and men wish girls and women all the best on that day. Men try to be better husbands or sons - helping in the daily chores.
Nowadays, Women's Day is the occasion to organise parades which aim at women's rights.
We celebrate Women's Day in our school. We prepare special plays for teachers (women), wish them on that day and give flowers. We also remember about our mothers, grandmothers, sisters and other women from our families.
On Women's Day there are a lot of flowers around, so we start thinking about spring that comes on 21st March.
