Women's Day by Portuguese team

 Women’s Day – 8 March

International Women's Day was marked, for the first time, on 19 March, 1911 in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Since then, the day has been celebrated in several countries, in order to recog nize the importance and contribution of women in society.
Another of the goals behind the International Women's Day origin is to remember the achievements of women and the fight against prejudice, be it (either) racial, sexual, political, cultural, linguistic or economic.
In 1975, the United Nations promoted the International Women's Year and in 1977 proclaimed March 8 as International Women's Day. On this day, it is common to send women messages of appreciation and tribute, and surprise them with flowers and chocolates.
