This tradition originated in France in the reign of Charles IX, in the
sixteenth century. April Fools' Day
is celebrated every year on the 1st of April throughout the Western world.
Practices include playing pranks and trying to get people to believe ridiculous
things.
Some newspapers, magazines, and other published media report fake stories, which are usually explained the next day. April Fools' Day has become a sort of Internet pranking holiday, thanks in part to Google, which began posting jokes on its site in 2000. The company is notorious for its April Fools' Day pranks. Don't believe everything you read or people say to you on April 1!
